SOS Children’s Villages has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise Ushs 6 billion. This will go towards supporting the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to increase the number of children in their care from 8,000 to 11,000 in the next three years.

The campaign is dubbed ‘Every Child Deserves A Chance. Be That Chance’ and has been spearheaded by SOS Children’s Villages of Kakiri, Fort Portal, Gulu and Entebbe in partnership with several corporate companies and organizations. These include Corporate Image Ltd, Mild May Uganda, Government of Uganda, UHMG, and JCRC in Mengo.

Olive Birungi Lumonya, the National Director of SOS said they have so far looked after over 60,000 children, directly in their homes or their family units.

“Uganda is known to have the highest number of orphan children in the world. We therefore thought that it would be prudent if we sought help from our own backyard and ask willing and able Ugandans to come in and give us a hand so that together we can make a better life for all the children in the country,” she said at a press conference held in Entebbe.

Birungi mentioned donation avenues and encouraged many both in Uganda and abroad to reach out and support these children.

“Willing donors can send through mobile money to 0776 505509 or 0705 505505. They will then receive a message automatically notifying them that we have received the donation. We will also accept bank deposits, online transfers and direct donations like clothes and food,” she concluded.
